YOUR CBD QUESTIONS ANSWERED

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our scientifically-proven advanced CBD Super Serum, our first serum containing anti-inflammatory CBD crystals suspended in Hyaluronic Acid. While we can’t wait for you to try it, we’re all too aware of how complicated CBD can be, especially with all of the different products and options out there now. We’ve answered some of the big questions below to help you understand more about this miracle product.

What is CBD?

CBD (Cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive component of the Cannabis sativa plant known for its high levels of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory effects on the skin. Our bodies hold many cannabinoid receptors which is why CBD is so efficient in delivering its anti-inflammatory properties, making this natural innovation one of the most effective ways of improving skin resilience.

What is CBD crystal isolate?

Crystallised CBD Isolate contains only pure Cannabidiol (CBD). This is because any impurities such as oils, unwanted plant material, waxes, and chlorophyll, are removed in the process of manufacturing the crystals. This type of CBD is completely free of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and is therefore non-psychoactive.

We use CBD crystal isolate rather than the more commonly found CBD oil.

Why do we choose to use CBD as a crystal isolate rather than an oil?

CBD crystal isolate is the pure molecule of Cannabidiol (CBD) which has been extracted from oil and then purified. We isolate only one component which ensures it is used in its purest form. This means it’s free from any other cannabinoids and the hallucinogenic properties of THC which can be present in full spectrum oils.

At Aurelia Probiotic Skincare we use CBD crystal isolate to quantify the exact amount of CBD we desire within our formulations. If we were to use CBD oil rather than crystal it would be much harder to quantify the levels within the product both in terms of the cleanness of the formula (THC-free) and also the quantity of CBD as the original oil is diluted.

How do we make crystal CBD?

Hemp is crushed by a mill into a powder. A solvent is used to strip the plant compounds from the hemp material. The solvent is evaporated out of the solution and the resulting concentrate is purified through several unit operations. The oil is decarboxylated turning CBDA into CBD thereby activating the substance. The CBD is distilled increasing the oil purity and removing chlorophyll and other impurities. Thus CBD is crystallised into its purest form.

What does CBD do?

Primarily used for its anti-inflammatory benefits, CBD soothes, softens and helps to reduce redness. CBD is a powerful natural antioxidant and fights against free radical damage, one of the main causes of premature skin ageing.

Is hemp oil the same as CBD?

Hugely rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids, Cannabis sativa seed extract – the oil pressed from the hemp seed – does not contain CBD or THC and is therefore not the same as Cannabidiol (CBD). Lightweight in texture yet rich enough to nourish the skin, hemp oil has been used for centuries as a brilliant skin conditioning, soothing ingredient.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is the key component within our skin that is responsible for hydration, smoothness, suppleness and glow. As we age, the natural production of hyaluronic acid within our skin starts to decrease, causing dehydration, dullness and fine lines among other concerns. The hyaluronic acid found in the CBD Super Serum improves skin condition and appearance, moderating sebum, production and improving wrinkles.
